H.E. Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon
H.E. Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon, Thailand's 39th Foreign Minister and former Thailand Trade Representative is the proprietary owner of the properties and land held by Kanta Enterprise International. Due toKantathi’s maternal grandmother, Khunying Long Athakravisoontorn’slove for collecting land, she began acquiring vast tracts of land throughout Thailand and especially in Bangkok since the early 1900s as she followed her husband, Governor Phraya Athakravisoonthorn throughout the Kingdom during his government service. Thus, the land holdings have long been part of the family’s ownership, now spanning three-generations.
The company’s property interests expanded beyond Thailand in the second generation, with KhunyingDootsdi Suphamongkhon, the current owner’s Mother. With her real estate interests and natural business acumen, the Suphamongkhon Family came to possess more prime properties inBel Air, Beverly Hills, New York City, London and Paris in addition to their extensive landholdings in Thailand.
From 2007-2014, Kantathi was invited to University of California at Los Angeles(UCLA), where he held the position of Regents’ Professor (2007-8) and Visiting Professor, Burkle Center at the International Institute (2008-13) and the Anderson School of Management (2014), where he taught International Law, International Relations, Diplomacy and International Trade.
In 2005-6, Kantathi was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Thailand, making him the 39th Foreign Minister of Thailand. Kantathi left Office during an Official Visit to France on September 19, 2006 due to a coup d’etat in Thailand.Prior to joining the Cabinet of the Thai Government, Kantathi held a Cabinet-level position as Thailand Trade Representative from 2001-2004.
Kantathiwas elected to the Thai House of Representatives as Member of Parliament in 1995 and then again in 2001. He has served as Adviser on Foreign Affairs to several Prime Ministers and to the Speaker of the House Representatives in the Thai Parliament. Kantathi represented Thailand as a diplomat at the United Nations in New York and prior to his UN posting, served as Director of the Policy and Planning Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 1993-1994. Upon completion of his studies and prior to serving in political office, Kantathi was a career diplomat, working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1985.
Kantathi holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts degree in International Studies from the American University in Washington, D.C. His Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science was obtained at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Kantathi is fluent in Thai, English and has a basic knowledge of German.
